The purpose of this lesson is for students to practice adding and subtracting within 20.

Students learn a new stage in the Number Puzzles center and then choose from previously introduced centers, focusing on adding and subtracting within 20.

Required Preparation

Activity 1:

  • Each group of 2 needs one set of Number Puzzle Digit Cards from stage 1 of this center.

Activity 2:

  • Gather materials from previous centers:
    • Number Puzzles, Stages 1 and 2
    • Shake and Spill, Stages 3-5
    • Compare, Stage 1
