The mathematical purpose of this lesson is to give students more opportunities to make sense of the kinds of situations that can be described with inequalities, and to recognize solutions to systems of inequalities.
This lesson builds on the work students did earlier with systems of equations and graphs of individual inequalities.
Students have an opportunity to reason abstractly and quantitatively (MP2) as they connect real-life situations to representations of inequalities.
Technology isn't required for this lesson, but there are opportunities for students to choose to use appropriate technology to solve problems (MP5). We recommend making technology available.
- Understand what kinds of situations are represented by inequalities and what kinds are represented by equations.
- Write inequalities associated with equations so that a target region of the plane is a solution.
- Let’s find and represent solutions to situations involving inequalities.
